Creating Opportunities for Student Success!
Students Learning the High Effective Habits of Successful Students
Indian Creek Local School District is undertaking a new initiative to follow the “Leader In Me” school improvement model, provided by Franklin Covey Education, which focuses on the universal challenges of academics, culture and leadership. The initiative will unfold over the next four years and incorporate teachers and youth to drive involvement among students and staff, build a high-trust environment in schools and student achievement and improve learning. The first part of the program has begun with the formation of the school team, which included 24 teachers and students at the July session. Stay tuned for more details!
Creek Cares
Our Mission:
Providing the Time and Support Students Need to be Successful.
Indian Creek Local School District is a public school district serving Wintersville, Bloomingdale, Unionport, and Mingo Junction, the far western portion of Steubenville, and unincorporated areas in central Jefferson County, Ohio.
With new facilities designed for learning and engagement, a team of committed teachers and staff, a focus on social-emotional learning, and high-quality classes and programs that allow students to explore their passions and build their skills, Indian Creek schools are dedicated to helping every student succeed in the classroom and beyond.
Creek Prepares All Students for the Future
We know that every student is unique. Our classes and programs are built with the goal of having every student as ready as possible for their chosen post-graduation path. From their early years to graduation, Creek is committed to helping every student prepare for their next chapter – whether they choose to enroll in college, be employed in a career job or enlist in service to our great nation.
Enrollment
For college bound students, Creek offers opportunities to earn credits while still in high school in College Credit Plus. ACT/SAT preparation and tutoring and other college admissions support is also provided.
Employment
Career Technology programs at Indian Creek High School include Engineering and Science Technologies, Information Technology, Interactive Media, Business and Administrative Services and others.
Enlistment
Creek helps students build skills, habits and attitudes that contribute to their success anywhere. This is perfect for military enlistment, where our young people see the world, and proudly serve our country.
Career Tech Education at Creek
Earlier this year, Cross Creek Elementary principal Dan Hartman was named career tech education coordinator, overseeing career pathways. Hartman was previously supervisor/principal at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School, where he was involved in beginning the heavy equipment operation program. He looks forward to working with the administration to provide instruction for students to be able to graduate and directly work in healthcare, dental care, sports medicine and other career tech pathways.
Indian Creek has a mission to ensure that each student is ready to take on their own destiny upon graduation – whether that is going to college, having the skills to enlist in service to our country or moving directly into a good paying career.
New Playground Unveiled at Hills Elementary
Retired Creek kindergarten teacher Sue Hammack joined her husband, Bill, and others for the October 19 dedication of Hills Elementary’s new playground equipment for play and education.
The Hammack family had made a $50,000 contribution for the project, which features a music station with a xylophone and drums, miniature teepees, a canoe, a writing and painting station, several outside learning spaces including one with chalkboards and a presentation stage, sand tables, a water station, a large Connect Four-style game, basketball court and a modern jungle gym plus swings and a rock wall.
“Your gift is not just a financial boost; it is a gesture of faith and support that means the world to us,” said superintendent Dr. T.C. Chappelear.

Creek is first area school to field inclusive sports with Special Olympics Unified program
Indian Creek High School has begun a Special Olympics Unified Sports program, focusing on inclusive youth leadership, school engagement, and student athletics.
Intervention Specialist Tom Mort has been working closely with Unified Champion Schools Director of Youth Engagement Kristi Peters to get the program going.
The program, still in its early phases, teams up students with intellectual disabilities with students who do not have intellectual disabilities to be on the same team, participating in practice sessions together, experiencing friendship and building character for all through inclusion.
Creek is the first area school to implement this program. Learn more and see the video here.
