Indian Creek Schools Raising Funds to Fight Cancer

Hills Elementary, Cross Creek Elementary, and Indian Creek Middle Schools joined forces to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Last year, these three incredible schools came together and donated a remarkable $6,700 to the Trinity Emergency Assistance Relief (T.E.A.R.) Fund. These funds were used to provide much-needed support, including gas cards, food, and utility bill assistance to patients undergoing treatment at the Tony Teramana Cancer Center in Steubenville.

This year, our schools continued their amazing efforts by hosting a range of activities to support various cancer charities. Through these events, our students raised funds that helped to make a significant impact on the lives of those affected by cancer and contributed to the ongoing fight against the disease. We are so proud of our elementary and middle school students for their efforts in helping those affected by cancer in our community.

Volunteers Appreciated at Indian Creek

Indian Creek Local School District celebrated National Volunteer Appreciation Week! We are so thankful for our volunteers and all that they do to help our students to make the world a better place. About 50 volunteer mentors with Share Time and Read Together (S.T.A.R.T.) were recognized at Cross Creek and Hills Elementary Schools.

S.T.A.R.T. involves retired teachers, professionals, community members and even current Superintendent Dr. T.C. Chappelear who spend time assisting youth one-on-one with reading, spelling, vocabulary and other literacy skills. Some of the volunteers have given themselves for more than 20 years or spend as many as four days a week working with the children. We are so thankful to these volunteers for dedicating their time to our students. You all are so appreciated!

Teen Mental Health Sessions

Indian Creek High School took proactive steps to empower our students and promote mental well-being through a series of enlightening sessions during Mental Health Awareness Month in May. We were delighted to welcome the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Greater Wheeling and the Josh Merriman Foundation to our school. They conducted sessions on mental health first aid, equipping our students to be valuable resources for their peers in times of need.

By educating teens on mental health first aid, we aim to break the stigma surrounding mental health and provide them with the necessary tools to support their peers and seek help when needed. We recognize that young individuals often turn to their friends before approaching adults, and these sessions will empower them to make a positive impact on others’ lives.

Just as we prioritize physical health, it’s crucial to recognize the importance of mental well-being. Mental health encompasses a spectrum of experiences, ranging from healthy to crisis levels. By fostering positive thinking and reframing mindsets, we can promote a healthier outlook on life!

Rachel Bodo

Congratulations to Cross Creek intervention specialist, Rachel Bodo, our staff member spotlight! She has been with us for more than four years and we have enjoyed every minute of it! As an intervention specialist, she finds immense joy in witnessing the moment when a student grasps a challenging concept. It’s always the highlight of her day, and she takes immense pride in her students’ accomplishments. Rachel shares an important piece of advice with our students: Always give your best effort and never be afraid of making mistakes, as that’s how we learn and grow! The relationships Rachel has built with her co-workers, students, and the administration will forever stay close to her heart. These connections have made her Cross Creek experience truly memorable. Outside of work, Rachel loves spending quality time with loved ones. She’s a proud mom who enjoys watching her two boys excel in sports. She also cherishes the great outdoors and enjoys outdoor activities.

Let’s celebrate Rachel Bodo and the incredible contributions she brings to Indian Creek Local School District. We’re grateful to have such a dedicated and inspiring educator as part of our team.

Indian Creek Spotlights Scholars

The Indian Creek Local School District honored high achievers during our Annual Scholars Banquet. Attendants gathered at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville to recognize the 2023 high school seniors who earned a 3.5 grade point average or better.

Patrick Stewart, a 2000 ICHS alumnus and current senior personnel advisor for the New England Patriots, served as the keynote speaker. “The adversity we face creates the opportunity for a new path forward,” he said. He explained that “Our circumstances shape us. I had to take all of the lessons from my failures and see what was next for me. Don’t hold a grudge; it only distracts you and makes you less productive.”

We are so proud of our students who have excelled in their education this year and achieved this huge accomplishment. Keep up the good work!

#CreekPrepares All Students for the Future – No matter which path they choose.

Our goal is for every student to graduate with a solid plan to enroll in college or other training, be employed in a career profession or enlist in the military.

Enrollment

For college bound students, Creek offers students opportunities to earn credits while still in high school in College Credit Plus. Creek also provides ACT/SAT preparation and tutoring and other college admissions support.
